Fall is finally here for real. The leaves are falling, the temperatures are dropping and tonight we're due for our first hard frost (ouch--I didn't get out to my garden yet to pull all the leftovers in). It's late this year; by this time last year we'd had at least one snowstorm. Ah well. I love the beauty of this season.
I've been enjoying the baking and cooking that fall brings. I think I have finally made my way through all of my zucchini. (No doubt to the great relief of my brothers, one of whom came up with an odd and interesting theory relating to the fact that zucchini stems smell somewhat like tobacco when burned. Don't ask me what he was doing burning zucchini stems.) I've processed some of my pumpkins and we had acorn squash for dinner tonight. I've started roasting the seeds from pumpkins squash and so far I've only burned two out of four batches. Ah me. I think I've learned my lesson and will remember to set the timer from now on. Anyway, if not burned and if seasoned properly roasted pumpkin seeds are delightful. And homemade apple butter is delicious on fresh biscuits...
Mom and Dad were gone for a long weekend. We had quite a crazy time--visiting friends, being visited by friends, late-night snacks, getting to bed early (in the morning, that is), trying to keep the house running, re-decorating a room (mostly Sarah's job) and so on. Whew; it was fun but it's a good thing that Mom's usually around to provide some degree of sanity. :)
We had our first CYS concert of the season on Sunday night. 'Twas a lot of fun; we're playing a set of all dance music. Last night we went out to the Colorado Public Radio performance studio to record a few of our pieces. We're supposed to air tomorrow night, probably around 7:45 MST. (If you listen from 7 to 8 you're pretty sure to catch us.) If you're interested you can listen to us online here--click on the "listen to classical music" button towards the top. I'm looking forward to hearing what we sound like. And if you're local, you should come to one of our next concerts; we're playing the same set of music on Oct. 29 and Nov. 7. Details are on the CPR calender here.
And...it's almost 11 here so I'm going to sign off. More later; hopefully it won't be another several weeks. :)
G'night!
Rachel :)

It sounds like a very busy and fun time for you all. I love fall foods. I made some apple butter too and had a batch of pumpkin apple butter in the canner before it occurred to me that I really should read the directions for canning pumpkin. ;) My mom isn't concerned because I used the only pumpkin we had on hand -- storebought canned.
We get a longer fall than you do, and I'm quite glad of that. The leave are rapidly dropping off the trees now though so we won't have much color left.
I'm busy sewing... and sewing. It's turning out well, just taking longer than preferred.
Hi Rachel!
What a delightful fall you seem to be having. Why is this season so much more nostalgic and memorable than the others? I love autumn too. :)
Congrats on being on the radio... is this the first time?
Love you and hope all is well!
Lisa
