Fall

There must be something about a quiet house that's conducive to blogging--for me, at least.  I'm by myself again tonight and have enjoyed doing my Saturday cleaning with the company of Grooveshark, turned up loud so I could hear it in the other room.  :)  I can't find the vacuum (must be in some overly obvious place) so I'm done for now and have a little time for writing.

It's been a good summer.  The heat hasn't bothered me as much as it usually does--in fact, it's been rather nice after being so cold last winter.  My garden has been mostly happy.  I got out to the lake a few times and got to do some swimming and sailing.  By the way--night sailing, especially when there's a full moon just rising over the dam, is highly recommended.  Made some fun memories; this post by Sarah contains the story of her roasted cucumber.  :P  That was the same day that Angie roasted a banana Laffy-Taffy and Amy roasted a carrot.

Fall's coming.  The weather vacillates--today was July-ish hot, and a few days ago it was chilly enough to wear a hoodie and make a real pot of tea.  I need to pull out and overhaul my fall/winter clothes.

We're finally getting lots of tomatoes.  I had a huge one the other day; I'll post the picture of it once I get Sarah to edit it a little for me.  The zucchini keeps coming, to the consternation of my brothers ("Why do you keep planting so much zucchini each year?  I mean, you'd think you'd learn!).  I don't think I have too much.  :)

School starts again on Monday and I'll get back into teaching, orchestra, Good News Club and the like.  I also have some Colonial sewing jobs, and I bought four yards of heavy melton wool for a cloak for myself.  After describing the color to a friend as "wine/purple/brown" I had a brain wave and realized what that color is called: plum.  More specifically, a darkish plum.  :D

Well, I think I am done for now.  I'm going to go do something irresponsible, like have chocolate cake for dinner and eat it in the hammock outside.  Have a good Sunday!

Rachel  :)

A most lovely, irresponsible thing to do. I'd do it myself anyday. ;) See you Friday...

Whoa it's this weekend already?

Let me know which tomato pictures you want edited and I'll edit them for you. :P

I bet my 4 1/2 hours of vball were more fun than your cleaning house...haha... sorry. :P

A darkish plum cloak will be very beautiful. I hope you'll share pictures when you have finished it. =)

Quiet houses are conducive to thinking and journaling for me.

I ate oatmeal cake with chocolate on top an hour before lunch yesterday... consolation for a horrible organ service.

The crisp mornings make me go walking wearing a hoodie. I now want tea two or three times a day. Do you find yourself trying to balance an almost overwhelming feeling of all the work and commitments coming back with the beauty of autumn? I do. And I can fully identify with needing to pull out and overhaul a fall/winter wardrobe. I wasn't quite ready to add all that to my schedule.

These are the times I'm deeply grateful for the beauty of creation, and that God's love does not rely on my completed to-do list.

I owe you a long e-mail. I'm hoping to get to that in the next few days. Maybe it will actually get on my to-do list now. :)
