Masterworks Letters IX

Hi people!

Blogger changed their posting format.  It's probably really nice but it'll take some getting used to.  :)

All kinds of stuff going on here, but it usually escapes my memory when I go to write.  So this will be a saying-hi post until I get around to writing again, which may not be till next week.

We have a lot of extra events scheduled this week, cramming things in before the end of the Festival (which is coming really quickly).  It's kind of crazy that almost a month has gone by already.  The theater performances are this weekend; I am really looking forward to seeing what they've done.  We have an extra sort of informal recital for duets/duos/chamber music tomorrow afternoon, and we're going to a nursing home to play Thursday afternoon.  Evenings from tomorrow through Saturday are booked.

We were supposed to have a really hot day...yesterday, I think it was?  It did get hot but a whopping thunderstorm came through in the morning, and that helped keep the temperature reasonable.  It was a little distracting trying to do a run-through of Bach while watching the storm move in (my practice room has a west-facing window).  Just for your information, practicing Bach while the person in the next room is wailing away on Rhapsody in Blue is also kind of interesting.   :P

Oh yes.  Some of you have read the book My Life with the Great Pianists by Franz Mohr?  He was Steinway's lead technician for something like 30 years; tuned for Horowitz, Glenn Gould, Rubenstien, and those sorts of people.  Well, he was our guest speaker this weekend.  He did a special talk for the piano students, and then gave the Sunday morning sermon.  He is delightful to listen to; he has a great accent and a heart for God.  He really went through a lot during the war and his testimony is pretty amazing.  I'm thinking that I will have to read the book again.

Well, that's all for now.  I should get some sleep at some point here...

Rachel
