This afternoon I finished my colonial outfit! I'm very happy, and my chocolate reward tasted really good. :D
It was a long process, making an outfit from inside out: shift, stays, petticoat, outer petticoat, jacket, kerchief. I don't know how many hours I spent on it...a lot. I have a new theory about reenactors: the girls spend a lot of time on their outfits, and the boys spend a lot of money. :) All that time spent trying things on, working with mock-ups, and making alterations paid off, though.

As soon as I had it finished and pressed I put it on (which process takes somewhere around 30 minutes, not including time spent on hair) and Sarah took some pictures of me. Go here to see all of them.

Hand-sewing eyelets proved to be surprisingly
easy and enjoyable, after I lined the edge of a scrap with a
number of trial runs. It could get quite addicting.

Detail shot of the hem on my kerchief.
I love the look of a hand-sewn hem.

The skirt (petticoat, actually, to use the period-correct term)
is about 120 inches around, so it billows quite nicely. :)
Thanks very much to Sarah for taking the time to get the pictures!

Beautiful, sis!! You are amazing...! I think you should go into business. ;)
Wish you could make mine for me! Your costume is lovely!!
Speechless. (Which isn't rare, but that's beside the point...) You ought to be very proud, in the best sense, of your work, Rachel. Seriously. =)
C is speechless... I feel breathless... these are lovely!
Thinking of you/praying for you far more often than I say so. :)
Love you!

Absolutely beautiful. I'm so impressed. I would never have had the patience to do that much handwork. Well... perhaps if I had something to wear it to. ;) The fabric combination is lovely and the details finish it all off beautifully.
Oh lovely!
