Masterworks Letters III

Saturday, July 25:  It’s intermission during a concert now (I brought my computer down to the hall with me to make good use of the time).  There are two full orchestras here, and each gives one one concert a week.  Last night the Philharmonic did Beethoven 5 and more, and tonight the Festival orchestra plays the Rococo Variations and La Mer (Debussy).  The conductor is Daniel Meyer.  His hair flops in true conductor style, and he’ll be conducting at Chautauqua at some point.

Now we’re in an ice cream shop across from the concert hall; some of the piano students are providing post-concert music for the patrons.  It’s a delightful little place, decorated with all kinds of pretties (lots of tea stuff).    The concert was great; the hall acoustics are good and the orchestra of high quality.  The Rococo Variations were delightful.  I thought I didn’t like them but it turns out that I was thinking of some theme and variations by Dvorak instead.  The soloist did a beautiful job.

Sunday, June 26:  Yesterday Shannon and I walked to Walgreens (about a mile?) to pick up some things.  Highway robbery (except from the Lindt chocolate, 2/$3), but Walmart isn’t within walking distance.  We needed dish soap and picked up a few other things…I got some milk so I can have proper tea (PG tips this afternoon).

We had church today out in a town green/park sort of area; there’s a small amphitheatre under some huge trees.  It’s a lovely place.  Afterwards I finished my devotions out in the park.  There will be a pops concert out there on Saturday, similar to the CSO concerts; I’m looking forward to that.

Well, I want to write a post about the daily schedule here but it’s too late now.  Good night, people!
