Hymn for the Week

Here's the hymn for this week. I thought about posting a patriotic song but decided against it. :) (If you don't know the last verse of our National Anthem, though, you ought to memorize that too.) Cyber Hymnal link here: there are a couple of extra verses there that I didn't post here.

Children of the heav’nly Father
Safely in His bosom gather;
Nestling bird nor star in Heaven
Such a refuge e’er was given.

God His own doth tend and nourish;
In His holy courts they flourish;
From all evil things He spares them;
In His mighty arms He bears them.

Neither life nor death shall ever
From the Lord His children sever;
Unto them His grace He showeth,
And their sorrows all He knoweth.

Though He giveth or He taketh,
God His children ne’er forsaketh;
His the loving purpose solely
To preserve them pure and holy.

I love this hymn. Unfortunately I'm most familiar with the composite translation that often appears under the title, "More Secure is No One Ever." Each has it's own special little phrases. I'm going to try to learn this one and hopefully keep the two straight... I can just imagine singing in church and forgetting to check which words are supposed to be sung. Just for the record, I do know the last verse to our national anthem, and it would not have bothered me at all if you'd chosen patriotic. My church is getting a patriotic prelude this week whether it goes with the sermon or not.
