Hymn for the Week

And we're back to (semi-) normal here on the blog, with a hymn for the week on Sunday!! It's time for another favorite old German hymn--Jesus, Priceless Treasure. Somehow the same person translated this one in more than one way (or something--there are different versions out that all say they were done by the same person), so there is more than one valid version. The one on the Cyber Hymnal link above is not the one that I am used to, so it differs from what I have here. Learn what you like... I'll learn the below and possibly a verse or two from the other version as well.

In other news, there won't be a hymn for the week for the next two weeks. We'll be out of town again, heading East this time. I'm looking forward to seeing Washington, D. C. and vicinity again. It's been a long time since we went last. (Amazing that my parents carted all seven of us around the East on a 4-week trip--during which we camped at least half the time--when I was 13 and Anna 2, isn't it? It didn't seem like anything tremendous to me at the time...) This time we will see some sights in the city and pay a visit to Mount Vernon. Should be really good! We'll resume (semi-) regular programming when I return. :)

Jesus, priceless Treasure,
Source of purest pleasure,
Truest Friend to me.
Long my heart hath panted,
Till it well-nigh fainted,
Thirsting after Thee!
Thine I am, O spotless Lamb!
I will suffer naught to hide thee,
Ask for naught beside Thee.

In Thine arms I rest me;
Foes who would molest me
Cannot reach me here.
Though the earth be shaking,
Every heart be quaking,
Jesus calms my fear.
Sin and hell, in conflict fell,
With their heaviest storms assail me,
Jesus will not fail me.

Wealth, I will not heed thee,
Wherefore should I need thee?
Jesus is my joy!
Honors, ye may glisten
But I shall not listen,
Ye the soul destroy!
Want or loss or shame or cross
Ne'er to leave my Lord shall move me
Since He deigns to love me.

Hence, all fears and sadness!
For the Lord of gladness,
Jesus, enters in.
Those who love the Father,
Though the storms may gather,
Still have peace within;
Yea, whatever we here must bear,
Still in Thee lies purest pleasure,
Jesus, priceless Treasure!

Well, I shall review my valid version. Did you read my e-mail? What a fitting hymn! I'm glad you chose it and will join in heartily.
