Hymn for the Week

It got rather late for posting last night; we had a bunch of people over and by the time they left I'd forgotten about doing this post, or something. So here it is, a bit late; hope you don't mind. Anyway...I was thinking about the lyrics to A Mighty Fortress as I was singing it last week. "We will not fear for God has willed His truth to triumph through us"; isn't that amazing?

For this week's hymn I wanted to do something related to Good Friday and Easter. I have liked this hymn for a long time; it's quite simple but has a lovely folk melody and good words. Here's the Cyber Hymnal link, if you care to hear the MIDI. Enjoy and have a good week!

What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul.

When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down,
When I was sinking down, sinking down,
When I was sinking down beneath God’s righteous frown,
Christ laid aside His crown for my soul, for my soul,
Christ laid aside His crown for my soul.

To God and to the Lamb, I will sing, I will sing;
To God and to the Lamb, I will sing.
To God and to the Lamb Who is the great “I Am”;
While millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing;
While millions join the theme, I will sing.

And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on;
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on.
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing and joyful be;
And through eternity, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on;
And through eternity, I’ll sing on.
