The Trip, Part II

This set is from my favorite part of the trip--our time at Lake Superior. We spent two nights at a campground on the lake in the small coastal town of Grand Marais.

Sarah and I enjoying the vastness.
Notice the storm in the distance.

Au Sable Lighthouse.
We walked 1.5 miles to the lighthouse, built in
1874 to warn ships of the sandstone shoals in the area.

Shipwrecks along the beach on the way to the lighthouse.
The reason for both lighthouse and shipwrecks--
the sandstone shoals. Across the road from the campground was a Lutheran
church that chimed on the hour during the day.

On the beach with my books.

After swimming and kayaking.

Evening on the lake.

The sunset. The reality was far better than the pictures. I sat among the grasses farther up on the beach and enjoyed to the full.

::gasp:: Those pictures are gorgeous!!!

I always took the ocean and big lakes for granted when I lived close to them. I miss the sound of water and waves.
